More Tubes

Andy had surgery this last Tuesday on his ears. He had his second set of ear tubes put in. He was very cool about it. He took his Gameboy Advance and Zelda with him and basically focused on that the entire time. Though through the game, he did have the presence of mind to answer all questions that needed answered, and he always turned off the game when he needed to. He was very polite and well-mannered, and was not the least bit nervous.

He went into the O.R. and I was allowed to be in there with him until he was asleep. They put him on the operating table, and had me stand by his left shoulder. The anesthesiologist showed Andy this balloon that he wanted Andy to “blow up” by breathing deep breaths. Within 5 breaths Andy was asleep.

They had me wait in a small conference room since the surgery was expected to take about 15 minutes. I’m guessing it was probly about 10 minutes until the doc came in and told me everything went smoothly, as expected. He gave me the tube that had been in Andy’s right ear. It had not been functioning properly. But now Andy has a tube in each ear and they are working properly.

The day following the surgery I sent Andy back to school, and he came home with so much to tell me. He was telling me he could actually hear the teacher, and the band playing down the hall, and all these other things. He was so excited to be able to hear correctly!

This is a true account written in my own words during the time it happened. I’ve lightly edited it for clarity in the present day (2026), with minimal exclusions, while keeping the original voice and meaning intact.

And what do you have to say about that?
