Last weekend, all the kids were playing together, like in the picture below. They were in a “train,” tugging Maizy along. Destiny and Cory wandered off to do something else, leaving Andy and Evan continuing their game. They were in the kitchen when, for some reason, Andy let go of the tug toy and fell butt-first onto Evan’s chest. Evan cried for a moment, then tried to get up and walk toward my mom. He grabbed his chest, ran into the cupboard door next to him, lost consciousness, and fell flat on his back on the kitchen floor.

At that moment, I was on my way but not yet in the room. My mom had seen the whole thing and was immediately holding Evan, screaming at him to breathe. He was limp, completely unresponsive, and I honestly believe it’s possible his heart may have even stopped for a few seconds. His eyes were open, but he was not there.
I immediately called 911. By the time I told them what had happened, Evan had started to breathe and then began crying. The ambulance arrived, and the EMTs checked him out. His vitals were fine, and they told me I could probably skip the ambulance cost and just take him to the doctor myself. That’s what I did. At the ER, the staff weren’t worried about the fact that he had stopped breathing—they were focused on the head injury from the fall. They did a CT scan, everything came back normal, and we were sent home.
Thank goodness Evan is okay. He escaped serious injury once again. I swear, I’m going to give myself a heart attack from Evan before he even turns six! But I never want to see any of my kids unresponsive like that again. I had a flash in my mind of losing him—it was terrifying.
On a brighter note, this past week all three boys started school. I sorted out some confusion about which school Andy was supposed to attend, and thankfully, he’s in the same school as last year. He’s in 1st grade now and seems to really like it. He says the work is harder, but he’s not getting bored so quickly anymore. Evan and Cory started Head Start this week as well. Their first day was a little rough, but since then they absolutely love it.

It feels very strange having no kids at home all day. I’ve submitted a couple of job applications, but haven’t heard back yet.
Cory also had his 3rd birthday on the 8th! He got a Tonka racecar set, a new bike, a blue doll just like he asked for, and a Care Bear from Destiny. He really enjoyed his cake and presents.

Now I have three big boys—no more babies or toddlers. In some ways it feels good, but in others, I really miss having a little one. Maybe someday I’ll have another. For now, I get to focus on the boys’ education and on improving my life to improve theirs.

This is a true account written in my own words during the time it happened. I’ve lightly edited it for clarity in the present day (2026), with minimal exclusions, while keeping the original voice and meaning intact.

And what do you have to say about that?
