My name is Summer. I’m a 45-year old mom with 4 kids: 3 adults and a 7-year old. I live in the Midwest USA, born and raised here – a blue dot in a sea of red.
I am painfully introverted in person, and don’t much enjoy meeting new people. I want to in theory, because I get lonely. But that requires actually leaving the house and talking to strangers, which sounds even more dreadful. I’m very comfortable in my own home with my kids, my pets, and my houseplants.
As for interests and hobbies, I love cozy PC gaming. I like arts and crafts of many kinds, including making fun graphics to use here on this website. I enjoy finding new and interesting movies and TV shows to watch. I like hanging out with the few friends I have, sometimes. I read (well, actually listen to audiobooks) and write quite a lot. I’d like to get out and do more active things, but I have been living with chronic pain for many years. I hope that 2026 is the year I can get that under control and actually be more of an outdoor person like I used to be.

Since I’ll talk about them a lot in my blog posts due to the fact that they are a HUGE part of my life, I’ll introduce you to my kids:
★ My oldest is Andy.
He is 23. He has some intellectual delays, as well as Autism, OCD and a tic disorder. He lives independently but requires assistance with errands and other adult responsibilities. He is interested in anime, reading fan fic, and video games.
★ My 2nd born is Cass.

They are 21. They had severe ADHD in childhood, and now they have a diagnosed mood disorder. It’s rough on them, but I’m doing my best to help them navigate life to the best of their ability. They are interested in cooking, anime, comics, video games, movies, and being more social than the rest of us.

They are 20. They have severe social anxiety and still live at home with me, for now. They are deeply interested in computers and electronics, and have learned how to make basic repairs and modifications on their own. They are also very much into video games.
★ My youngest is Felix!
He is 7 years old. He has a rare chromosomal abnormality called Dup15q. In Felix’s case, it has caused intellectual and other developmental delays, autism, epilepsy, and he is entirely non-verbal. He has had many therapies and specialists since we realized he was different, at around 7 months of age. He will likely always be dependent for care. He loves to play with his dad’s phone, anything that has gears or wheels or anything spinny, and watching Billy Strings videos.
I know the whole picture of each of my kids is not defined by their challenges, but I list them here so you know what I’m referring to when I have a post to write about life as it is in the moment.
It’s also worth noting that my name is currently and permanently Summer, but I also have a dead name. Back in mid-2022 I legally changed my name because I felt like the name I had been given at birth – Shauna – was very much associated with all the trauma I had been through up until that point in my life. So I decided to start a new chapter in my life, no longer being victimized, with a new name.
